Nepal and Vietnam have signed an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders. Prime Minister Oli met Vietnam's PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Saturday as Nepal and Vietnam officials witnessed and agreed on the 16 point agreement after the meeting. In the agreement, the people with government and diplomatic passports will require no visa while travelling each other's country. Vietnam also agreed on importing Nepalese goods along side Vietnam's investors to invest in various production models in Nepal. The concerned ministries considered on air services at the earliest and further promote trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding on establishment of bilateral consultation mechanism between the two ministries of foreign affairs and a letter of intent on negotiating and signing the framework agreement on trade and investment cooperation, reads a 16-point joint statement issued today.
Both leaders agreed to look into proposals of market access for the agricultural products that they held competitive edge, encourage information exchange and cooperation in agricultural science and technical research, and promote exchange of agricultural experts. The Nepal Chamber of Commerce and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce will renew the agreement made in 2018, encourage the tourists to visit both countries and a consensus on friendly visit of the political parties, the government, the parliamentary institutions and the citizens of both the countries. There is also a consensus between building foreign minister level two-party consultancy mechanisms, making similar views on regional and international issues, implementation of criminal law between Vietnam's internal security ministry and the Home Ministry, and to cooperate against crime and starting discussions for that.
The two leaders discussed all aspects of the bilateral relations, and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The two leaders noted that both Vietnam and Nepal had to undergo various kinds of struggle to preserve sovereignty, territorial integrity and national independence. Prime Minister of Vietnam congratulated the people of Nepal for the historic political achievement and for its' unique and homegrown peace process and its institutionalization through a democratic constitution and the formation of a stable government.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc told that he aims to be the permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020 and 2021 and expects full pledge support from Nepal. Prime Minister Oli promised the co-operation also invited the Vietnamese Prime Minister to visit Nepal at the right time.
Prime Minister Oli had departed from Kathmandu on 26th Baisakh on a diplomatic visit to Vietnam. He has a program to address the event organised on the occasion of the United Nations Day on Sunday.
